Our school is located in Volos, in Thessaly region, central Greece.We have 206 pupils(7-11) and 32 teachers.Most of the pupils belong to families with a medium- to -low social-economic situation.In this society is incorporated a disadvantaged minority made up of migrants from Albania and local groups of Gipsies.Their problems are focused on lingual difficulties, while the differences in economic level are not considered so important because the whole population of the area belongs to the labour social rate.Their problems of integration are principally represented by the barrier of the language,the lack of a familiar and social network, the differences in terms of religion and economic level.The project is orientated not only around knowledge, abilities, value attitudes, but also around sensations, feelings, self expression. he whole attempting intervention will encourage children to fuse, interact, combine and amalgamate more.Moreover, we aim in consolidating the idea of citizenship in a community of equal rights, opportunities, terms.Is essential immigrants and pupils with special needs will be asked to find a role in school society. Encouraging pupils – independently their skills – to participate in sport activities ,we overwhelmingly support the integration of weakened people into mainstream society.Through this project, by using active teaching methods and applying topical interdisciplinary integration, we intent to help children to acquire essential, relevant knowledge about themselves, the world and other people by means of sports and to cultivate the social abilities and values.To organise a mobile cooperation between teachers and pupils, to make the education humanistic, democratic,and tolerant to the personality development and otherness.In the past our school took part in two Comenius projects titled “Balanced Diet” and “Orbis Pictus”.We have great eTwnings experiences.Our pupils,living in a multicultural school environment, are very sensitized in integral development. Through these projects and towards the integration of cross-curricular activities, interactive education, whole learning, project – based education,research and development techniques in all of our subjects we aim in an educational and cultural growth for all.
We aim to develop ways in which each partner school can share its particular educational expression and language so that we can celebrate the similarities we share as well as appreciating the richness in our diversity. In our school there are special teachers for music, PE and there are subjects related to nutrition, environmental studies.All the staff has a great experience in both European and national projects.They are also experienced in participating in and working on projects that promote the integral development of pupils.As a coordinator school of this project we are highly determined to do our best in order to reach all the objectives assumed.
